ΠΡΟΣΚΛΗΣΗ

Ο Τομέας Κλασικής Φιλολογίας, το ΠΜΣ «Δέξιππος» και το ΠΜΣ «Παπυρολογία και Κλασική Γραμματεία» συνδιοργανώνουν τη διάλεξη του κ. Sven Günther (Ινστιτούτο Ιστορίας των Αρχαίων Πολιτισμών, Northeast Normal University, Τσανγκτσούν, Κίνα) η οποία θα πραγματοποιηθεί στα Αγγλικά τη Δευτέρα 8 Ιουνίου 2026, ώρα 16:00, στο Εργαστήριο Παπυρολογίας (αίθουσα 743) του κτηρίου της Φιλοσοφικής Σχολής, με θέμα: «Narrative Economics and Ancient Economy».

Περίληψη

In this paper I argue that modern Narrative Economics' research focus, namely, the way how stories influence economic behavior and developments is, to some degree, applicable to ancient sources. The paper will first draw on, and critically examine, modern approaches to this topic, and then discuss selected examples which fall under the category of economic narratives aiming to frame economic behavior from ancient Greek & Hellenistic times. Overall, I hope to show that not only ancient studies can be enriched by the application of modern, cross-disciplinary approaches but also that the ancient studies themselves can substantially contribute to the critical assessment of such modern theories, models, and methods.
