       «Seneca’s Natural Questions: Three Perspectives »

Abstract: Seneca was one of the foremost Stoic philosophers, orators, and literary artists of the Neronian period. His Naturales Quaestiones combines all of these characteristics in a rich treatise about the natural world and the place of man in that world. Prof. Trinacty’s paper investigates this work through three lenses: its rhetorical construction, literary intertextuality, and the Stoic concept of apatheia. Seneca utilizes these different perspectives to reach his audience and attempt to convince them to change their behavior and to live according to nature.
